Texas is still alive at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Branson Davis from McKinney scored a 1-up victory against Richard Hattori from Honolulu on the final hole of their third round match at The Golf Club of New England in Stratham, N.H.
Hattori led the entire front nine, briefly getting as far as 3 up on Davis. Then the Texan squared the match on the par-4 10th. After both juniors made three straight pars, Hattori’s bogey gave Davis the 14th hole and his first lead.
Hattori squared the match a hole later, and Davis took another lead with a par on No. 16. Hattori then squared the match for the third time when Davis bogeyed the par-3 17th.
They came to the final hole tied, and both players struggled to finish. Hattori made a double-bogey 6 on the 420-yard par 4. That meant Davis’ bogey was good enough to win the match and advance to the Quarterfinals.
Davis on Friday morning faces the winner of the third round match between Nicolas Echavarria from Columbia and Charles Cai from New Jersey.
Earlier on Thursday, Texans Scottie Scheffler, David Lee, Connor Black and Vincent Whaley all lost second round matches. Follow live scoring by clicking here.
